NIRA event at Texas Motorplex - June 28th 1998
Ennis, TX - The weather was hot (100+) and so was the racing at the Texas
Motorplex in Ennis, near Dallas, June 28. Kyle K. and Brad B. had their 3rd gens
entered in Power 6 class competition. During FAST 8 qualifications, Kyle's car
was running very strong and qualified in the low 13s, Brad's car was hampered
with low boost (7 lbs.) and qualified at 13.5. In the eliminations,
Kyle first beat Ari Yallon (Rotary Performance 3rd gen) and then Andy Mages from
RP, (RP 1st gen turbo) to reach the finals against the fast 3rd gen Supra of
Lance W. from Houston's Motorsport Technologies. Kyle ran an amazing 12.514 at
114.8 on his street Yoko A008s, but was not enough for the dedicated drag
machine of Lance who runs in the 10s on slicks.
All in all, it was a great showing by Kyle, who won the respect of the Dallas
crew with his tenacity. The event was a blast, we got to see Adam Saruwatari's
drag car run 9.77 at 139.8 (his fastest run ever) in the morning run, along with
seeing RX-7s dominate the Power 6 qualifiers. The new club T-shirts were
everywhere including on ESPN2 which covered the event.
